Process Control Systems Engineer


ABOUT SO4 

SO4 are striving toward the production of high-grade Sulphate of Potash (SOP). Our Lake Way asset is located in the Goldfields region of Western Australia,15 kilometres south of Wiluna. We are about to enter a critical 3-phase process: Restart, the sale of the first commercial product, Nameplate, and Production. SO4 is a fast-growing Perth based mining company developing its clean, green and sustainable Lake Way Project. SO4 is a Brown?elds site, carrying out modi?cations to improve the economics of the project.   We are seeking a suitably qualified Process Control Systems (PCS) Engineer is to support, maintain, modify, and improve all process control systems across the site infrastructure and process plant ensuring regulatory controls.

THE ROLE

Reporting to the Process Manager and working from our well-appointed Perth offices you will have an established approach on being able to effectively source, gather, interpret, and communicate quantitative and qualitative trend and alarm data from SCADA data. Having previous exposure working in mining and remote environments and operational knowledge and appreciation for Functional Safety, EEHA, Radiation sources and hazardous areas.

Having worked in a similar role you will have:

  • In-depth understanding of AS-3000 and relevant industry stands related to SO4 site.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of AS 61508, AS 60079 and AS4024.
  • Solid grasp of MOC processes.
  • Practical understanding of process plant and borefields.
  • SME in control system tuning of P&ID loops and complex logic.
  • Sound knowledge of setting up electrical devices: MPRs, VSDs and circuit breakers.
  • Comprehensive understanding of LV Electrical design and distribution.
  • Active understanding of HV reticulation.
  • Applied knowledge of VLANS (N95), routers and radio communications.
  • Adeptness in trouble-shooting software bugs, identifying and fixing hardware faults in both control systems, E&I equipment, and communications equipment.

You will be responsible for:

  •  Design and implement effective process control systems.
  • Optimise processes and apply quality control systems strategies that comply with industry specifications and regulations.
  • Identify strategies and procedures to increase process efficiency.
  • Ensuring robust process controls are in place to prevent nonconformities.
  • Perform essential maintenance and operation tasks for Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems.
  • PLC programming and maintenance.
  • Maintain electrical instrumentation the communications control system VLAN, Radio Telemetry, UHF/VHF radios, Optic fibre.
  • Inspect and test machines, gauges, equipment, instrumentation, and control systems to diagnose faults.
  • Adjust, repair, and replace worn or defective components and wiring.
  • Install, calibrate, test and repair electrical instruments and control systems.
  • Provide day-to-day technical support to the Operation and Maintenance groups to troubleshoot and fix any systems issues.
  • Deliver remote support while offsite.
  • Guide engineers, maintenance, and plant personnel with technical queries.            

ABOUT YOU

We are seeking a candidate with well-developed influencing, communication, and consultation skills; with the capacity to handle complex situations and make decisions under pressure. You will have a minimum 15 years’ industry experience with a broad range of componentry and demonstrated experience maintaining plant uptime.

To be successful you will have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Certificate III or IV in Instrumentation
  • Dual Electrical & Instrumentation trades qualification or certification (desirable)
  • Current WA Electrician License and or Cert IV Electrical /Instrumentation
  • Construction Induction Card (White/Blue)
  • Current Working at Heights
  • Current Confined Space Entry
  • High Risk Work License
  • HV Switching (Desirable)
  • Current “C” Class Western Australian driver’s license

  You will possess the following systems knowledge:

  •  Advanced computer literacy and business software knowledge of VLANS, Citect, Rockwell PLC configuration software and Rockwell networking software platforms
  • Network diagnostics software. E.g.: Ethereal and Profiscan
  • Familiarity using Pronto
  • Working knowledge using Aconex
  • Advanced user of INX
