Human Resources (HR) & Payroll Specialist

Founded in 1881 by the Marist Brothers, St Joseph’s College is a boarding and day secondary boys’ school, whose Catholic identity is shaped by Marist spirituality and traditions. Governed by Marist Schools Australia, the College enrolment is approximately 1,100 students.

This role within the People & Culture Department is responsible for supporting the efficient and effective functioning of systems and procedures within the Department and the timely preparation and payment of remuneration to all staff employed by the College. 

The Human Resources and Payroll Specialist is a member of a team which works to ensure people management practices are of a high quality and support the aims and values of the College through providing professional HR and payroll advice and guidance to line managers and staff. The team supports compliance on all employment related policies and procedures in line with legislation and best practice through coaching and supporting managers.

The successful applicant will demonstrate a high level of organisation, including:

  • Experience and expertise in executing and managing a large fortnightly payroll, payroll software and the use of other relevant databases. Knowledge of Aurion Payroll Solution software will be highly regarded but not essential.
  • Experience in the administration of HR processes and some understanding of employment legislation.
  • In depth knowledge and application of Industrial Instruments (MEA, Awards).
  • Working knowledge of Payroll reporting, including Census, Budget, Single Touch Payroll (STP), WGEA, FBT and Leave accruals/liabilities.
  • Ability to embrace and support process improvement.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, in particular Excel/Goole Sheets, including Pivot tables and lookups.
  • High level attention to detail and accuracy as well as sound logic and numeracy skills
  • Proven ability to communicate, both orally and in writing, in a clear and concise manner.
