Graphic Designer


Laguna College of Art + Design, is seeking a full-time experienced Graphic Designer. The College is located in an internationally recognized arts colony in Laguna Beach, California and offers a diversity of majors in Animation, Graphic Design and Digital Media, Fine Art, Game Art, Illustration and Entertainment Design.

Position Summary:

The Graphic Designer will serve as the organization's primary designer, responsible for concepting, design and production a wide variety of print, digital and web-based graphics. An effective, enthusiastic team player, this individual will collaborate with LCAD staff, faculty and vendors to build and maintain consistent, high quality LCAD-branded materials.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage the branding process for print, design and branding specifications and consistencies with direction from the Director of Marketing and Communications.
  • Remain up-to-date on and follow the College Style Guide and Editorial Standards
  • Contribute to organization of photo and video library, familiarize oneself with photo and video libraries, conduct photo and video research, take photographs and shoot video or schedule and work with outside photographer
  • Communicate and collaborate extensively and effectively with the Director of Marketing and Communications and with all Advancement staff members
  • Communicate effectively and respectfully with a wide variety of in-house clients (including but not limited to department heads and program chairs) to establish and maintain project-related goals, playing their part to keep projects on time and within budget
  • Work with vendors to obtain bids, manage jobs through the pre-production and production up to and including delivery to clients
  • Produce Web-optimized images for use on LCAD's website and social media
  • Provide guidance and design support to third parties utilizing the LCAD logo, branding and content to ensure consistency in layout and messaging
  • Adheres to LCAD's diversity, equity and inclusion program.
  • Ensure that LCAD has prior approval, in writing, for any copyright protected and/or trademark protected content that LCAD puts on the web or in print. The written approval must come directly from the owner of the content and written approval documentation must be in our possession, in perpetuity
  • Stay up-to-date with latest technologies and industry trends
  • Maintain organized file system and file backups

Position Requirements, Experience and Education

  • Undergraduate degree in graphic design or related field, preferred
  • Minimum of two years of related graphic design and website experience
  • Strong design and multi-media skills including photography, videography and editing of both digital photographs and videography
  • Fluency in WordPress web software and plug-ins, google analytics, familiarity with webmaster tools and FB open graph
  • Ability to think creatively and work quickly and intuitively
  • Excellent listening, written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills required.
  • Attention to detail, strong organization and time management skills
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple projects simultaneously and adapt to changing deadlines
  • Mastery of Adobe Creative Suite: InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Dreamweaver and industry-standard design hardware/software or equivalent software programs
  • Experience in print techniques, choosing paper/stock, spec writing, as well as reviewing and editing proofs
  • Experience in interactive design and some understanding of HTML
  • Basecamp (Project management platform) experience a plus
  • A commitment to supporting LCAD's diversity, equity and inclusion program.
  • Knowledge of POs, business systems, publishing and mail house specifications
  • Experience in the Education industry a plus
  • Must comply with LCAD's COVID-19 vaccination policy

Physical Essential Functions

Sitting, keyboarding, may lift up to 20 lbs. without assistance, grasping, pulling, pushing, reaching, and moving from one place to another. This position takes place indoors in an office environment sitting at a desk and working in front of a computer. Occasional bending, stooping and squatting.
