Product Designer: Rich Experiences, AR/VR

Overview

On Remote Presence, our mission is to bring friends and family together when they're physically apart. In the wake of Covid-19, this has become a top priority for Messenger, Instagram, and the company at large.

The Rich Experiences AR/VR team strives to combine art and technology to amplify the feeling of connection in a video chat. In addition to optimizing our AR effects line-up, we're currently working on a suite of new ways to utilize AR in products across Messenger, Instagram, and Facebook.

Scope

As a Product Designer, you will be involved in every aspect of the product development process, from prototyping the next great product innovation and tweaking pixels right before launch. You will be expected to utilize your full range of product design, interaction design and visual design skills while you impact a variety of Messenger and Instagram AR experiences.

This includes:

• AR Effects: Optimize the experience of browsing and applying AR Effects in a video call across many operating systems and types of devices
• Avatars: Bring avatars to in-call and messaging experiences in a delightful and useful way

• AR Design System: Partner with other designers and teams across the company to ensure Messenger users are getting a high quality and consistent experience and while also giving them access to relevant content
• Future experiences: Continuously brainstorm ideas and monitor social trends to help conceive of new AR experiences that will differentiate our product and provide value to our users and partner with our in-house creative team to bring them to market

The Role

We're seeking an experienced Product Designer to join the Messenger Rich Experiences team. This designer will lead and support key initiatives for our AR features in flight and other future experiences across iOS, Android, Web and Desktop and work with multiple teams and stakeholders across the company.

The best person for this role:

• Has passion for the space and experience working with video chat and/or AR products
• Is a strong visual and interaction designer, focused on exceptional craft and execution
• Is an adept prototyper, with a bonus for proficiency in animation or 3-D software
• Is knowledgeable in iOS/Material/Desktop standards
• Can lead and collaborate with other designers, both inside and outside the company
• Has proven experience leading product vision and influencing others
• Is a strong communicator and self-starter
• Is resilient in the face of speed and high demands.
• Is a conceptual thinker and has experience with Art Direction and/or working in creative teams
