Our client, Nepean Rubber & Plastics is a long-established Australian manufacturer of technically specified rubber, plastic and polyurethane components. Operating for over four decades, the company supplies precision-engineered products and assemblies to industries including mining, transport (rail, road and marine), infrastructure, food manufacturing and industrial OEMs.

The business operates from a large manufacturing facility in St Marys, NSW, with extensive in-house capabilities including rubber moulding, plastic injection moulding, extrusion, rubber-to-metal bonding and CNC machining.

An opportunity is available for a hands-on Mechanical Engineer to support plant operations, tooling and equipment performance across a rubber and plastics manufacturing facility. The role works closely with Production, Toolroom and Quality teams to improve equipment reliability, operational efficiency and safety.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Provide mechanical engineering support for presses, injection moulders, extruders, autoclaves and continuous cure lines
  2. Diagnose equipment issues and lead root-cause analysis and corrective actions
  3. Support the design, modification and commissioning of tooling, jigs and fixtures
  4. Implement and manage preventative maintenance programs to minimise downtime
  5. Assist with installation and commissioning of new machinery and upgrades
  6. Prepare engineering drawings, technical specifications and documentation
  7. Support continuous improvement and efficiency initiatives across production
  8. Ensure compliance with WHS, ISO9001 and statutory requirements
  9. Liaise with external suppliers, OEMs and service contractors as required

Skills and experience:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
  2. Minimum 3 years’ experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment
  3. Experience in rubber, plastics, moulding or heavy manufacturing preferred
  4. Strong mechanical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  5. Experience using CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD or similar)
  6. Knowledge of preventative maintenance systems and plant equipment
  7. Understanding of WHS and quality management systems
