We are looking for a Software Engineering Team Lead to join the team! In this role, you will lead by doing, owning critical processes, and bringing structure to our fortnightly planning cycles to enable measurable performance and stable scope management across a small but growing software team. This is a full-time ongoing position, working 38 hours per week based in West Perth, WA.
Main tasks:
-Take full ownership of the engineering process end-to-end, particularly leading our fortnightly planning to establish clear, measurable scope and metrics on delivery performance.
-Gather, clarify, and document technical requirements and specifications to align the entire team on clear goals, ensuring alignment between junior, mid-level, and senior engineers.
-Effectively communicate and translate technical plans and processes so non-engineers can contribute meaningfully to the workflow.
-Translate designs and product vision into a well-groomed, technical backlog ready for execution.
-Lead sprint planning, backlog prioritization, and discipline in scope management to ensure stable and predictable delivery cycles.
-Conduct thorough code reviews and uphold rigorous software quality standards.
-Drive release planning and readiness for go-live, coordinating with product and operations.
-Lead by example with clean, maintainable, and scalable code contributions across the stack.
-Champion best software engineering practices including clear, up-to-date documentation, consistent coding standards, and knowledge sharing within the team.
-Mentor and guide engineers to continually improve practices and foster a collaborative, high-performance engineering culture, without formal managerial responsibilities.
Required/Relevant Qualifications & Work Experience:
-Minimum of a relevant bachelor’s degree qualification plus minimum 1 year’ relevant work experience in the last 5 years.
-5 years’ relevant work experience may substitute the formal qualification.
Required/Relevant Skills & Knowledge:
-Strong skills in React, Vite, TypeScript, NodeJS, Python (FastAPI), PostgreSQL, and Azure.
-Experience owning engineering workflows, sprint planning, backlog management, and delivery metrics.
-Proven ability to lead technically and influence team delivery processes through action and example.
-Ability to coordinate across experience levels, ensuring senior engineers work aligned with delivery goals and junior engineers grow within the framework.
-Comfortable engaging cross-functional teams and ensuring non-engineers understand how to contribute to delivery processes.
-Strong believer in documentation, software standards, and knowledge sharing to scale team productivity and product quality.
-Collaborative communicator who works closely with product leadership to align technology with business goals.
-Bonus: experience with AI/ML platforms, energy or infrastructure sectors, and startup environments.
Annual salary will be between $100,000.00 to $110,000.00 (plus superannuation) depending on level of experience.
