Hofmann Engineering’s established engineering workshop in Perth, is seeking to fill the position of Toolmaker. This will suit an energetic person who takes pride in their work and work area, is punctual, and has excellent communication skills. The position is primarily responsible for making and repairing tools, dies, jigs, fixtures and other precision parts and equipment to fine tolerances for machine tools and other production machinery, and construct full-size engineering, visual and experimental models and models for the manufacture of prototype developmental products.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Conformance to Hofmann Engineering and Australian Health and Safety standards.
  2. Read and interpret technical drawings and Hofmann standards including specification charts, samples and drawings to gain a thorough understanding of requirements.
  3. Ability to produce parts within tolerances.
  4. Understand/use software such as Mazatrol, Shop turn, Manual Turn and Fanuc G code for programming.
  5. Understand and use software suitable for safely operating machines like DMG, WMW, Soraluce, Scheiss, Siemens and possible other multi axis machines as well (training will be given as required).
  6. Working on different machines based on job urgency and Hofmann Engineering requirements.
  7. Maintain a high standard of house-keeping around machines.
  8. Monitor machine while working to adjust the feed, maintain temperature and identify issues.
  9. Setting up equipment required to complete each step of the component plan.
  10. Lift and transport parts into position safely, manually, by hoist or crane.
  11. Ensure preventive maintenance is carried out effectively on machines and relevant log books are signed off.
  12. Fill up inspection records and sign off job cards before moving to the next operation.
  13. Use 5 S principles to improve efficiency and effectiveness of process and work place.
  14. Ensure that any accidents, near misses and material damage are reported.
  15. Assist in ensuring the quality of work performed, paying attention to detail and reporting any discrepancies or defects to the relevant tradesperson.
  16. Maintain records and documentation related to tasks, materials used, and work completed as required

  18. Demonstrate compliance with safety requirements including following safe work practice, standard operating procedures and the appropriate use of personal protection equipment.

Preferred Skills/Experience:

  1. Australian Trade certificate required.
  2. Minimum 2 years experience.
  3. Knowledge of tooling capabilities and inserts.
  4. Knowledge of safety standards of machines being run.
  5. Critical thinking abilities.
  6. Ability to react to non-conformance operations as they occur.
  7. Math skills which include geometry and trigonometry.
  8. Ability to read and interpret measuring instruments.

This role will also demand flexibility and a “can-do” attitude. Successful applicants will be highly motivated, have good communications skills and keen to work as a flexible team. Additional skills and qualifications will be highly regarded. Training in workplace safety will be an ongoing process.
