About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Project Engineer – Substations to lead and oversee the design of high-voltage substations, ensuring integration of both primary and secondary systems. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in substation design and demonstrate the ability to manage complex projects from conception through to completion. Experience with renewable energy projects, particularly solar and BESS, is highly desirable.

Key Responsibilities

1. Lead the design and development of high-voltage substations, ensuring seamless integration of primary (e.g., transformers, switchgear) and secondary (e.g., protection, control systems) components.
2. Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, including civil, structural, and electrical engineers, to ensure cohesive design integration.
3. Review and approve design documentation, ensuring compliance with industry standards and client specifications.
4. Manage project timelines, budgets, and resources effectively to deliver projects on schedule and within scope.
5. Provide technical mentorship to junior engineers and drafters, fostering professional development within the team.
6. Collaborate with clients, stakeholders, and regulatory bodies to ensure project requirements are met and approvals are obtained.
7. Stay abreast of emerging technologies and industry trends to incorporate innovative solutions into design practices.

Skills & Experience

Essential:

1. Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
2. Minimum of 10 years’ experience in substation design, with a focus on both primary and secondary systems.
3. Proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD, ETAP, and PLS-CADD.
4. Strong understanding of high-voltage electrical equipment and system configurations.
5. Demonstrated experience in project management and team leadership.
6. Excellent communication skills and the ability to liaise effectively with clients and stakeholders.

Desirable:

1. Experience with renewable energy projects, particularly solar and BESS.
2. Familiarity with Australian grid codes and regulatory requirements.
3. Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent certification.
