The Opportunity

We are seeking a qualified and experienced Fitter (General) to join our dynamic team. This role is integral to our operations, focusing on the assembly, installation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical components and systems within our manufacturing processes.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Interpret Technical Drawings and Specifications - Study blueprints and engineering specifications to determine appropriate materials, machining methods, sequences of operations, and required machine settings.
  2. Precision Fabrication and Assembly - Fit and assemble fabricated metal parts and subassemblies to construct machinery and equipment, ensuring precise alignment, fit, and clearance using precision measuring instruments.
  3. Machine Setup and Tool Configuration - Set up guides, stops, dies, and tools on machining and textile machines; calibrate machine settings to meet required tolerances and operational standards.
  4. Metal Forming and Machining Operations - Operate lathes, milling machines, presses, grinders, and drills to shape metal components to fine tolerances for mechanical systems.
  5. Installation of Hydraulic and Pneumatic Systems - Cut, bend, thread, and install hydraulic and pneumatic piping and lines, ensuring secure and leak-free connections.
  6. Autocad and /or Solidworks experience – Use CAD software to work out economical cutting plans for manufacturing items.
  7. Machine Diagnostics and Maintenance - Diagnose mechanical and fluid power system faults, perform routine maintenance, and overhaul or repair defective components to ensure operational efficiency.
  8. Site Installation and Commissioning (if required) - May be required to erect and install machines and equipment at client sites, ensuring compliance with safety and operational guidelines.

What We're Looking For

  1. Proven experience as a Fitter or in a similar mechanical trade role.
  2. Strong technical and mechanical aptitude.
  3. Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics.
  4. Sound knowledge of workshop safety practices and compliance standards.
  5. Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  6. Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.

Qualifications

A Certificate III in Engineering – Mechanical Trade or equivalent qualification is highly regarded. Substantial practical experience in fitting tasks may be considered in lieu of formal qualifications.
