THE OPPORTUNITY

As a Lead Software Engineer at Viva Leisure, you will play a pivotal role in building and enhancing our internal systems, including member platforms, billing platforms, and other cutting-edge projects that support the growth and improvement of Viva Leisure’s technical assets.

This role is designed for a hands-on developer who will work closely with senior leaders tackling special projects that drive innovation and business success. You will collaborate with a team of skilled professionals and stakeholders to design, implement, and optimize scalable systems that elevate Viva Leisure’s capabilities in a dynamic.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

We are looking for someone with:

1. 5+ years of experience in backend development using Node.js and TypeScript
2. Relevant Bachelors degree or higher
3. Solid experience with AWS services (Lambda, DynamoDB, API Gateway, IAM, CloudFormation)
4. Practical knowledge of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform, Pulumi or AWS CDK
5. Experience creating efficient REST APIs and event-driven architectures
6. Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools (GitHub Copilot, Cursor, OpenAI API)
7. Creative problem-solving approach and ability to investigate complex system issues
8. Understanding of API security principles, authentication, and authorization mechanisms
9. Strong communication and collaboration skills

4. Notion

RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Design and implement scalable backend systems and secure APIs, ensuring seamless integration with frontend frameworks like ReactJS, AngularJS, or Vue.
2. Manage and deliver multiple projects autonomously, maintaining alignment with business objectives and providing clear API documentation (e.g., via Postman).
3. Collaborate with the Chief Technology Architect, Labs Operations Lead, and other stakeholders to translate business needs into effective technical solutions.
4. Monitor system performance, conduct comprehensive testing (unit, integration, functional), and proactively address issues across environments.
5. Use GitHub for version control and contribute to a well-documented, collaborative codebase.
6. Mentor junior developers and support knowledge sharing across the team.
7. Work with the CTA on high-impact projects for executive leadership, including scoping and presenting project or product plans.
