Position Details

Information Technology and Security at The University of Tampa has a position available for a Senior Web Developer. This role will interface with the university's content management system (CMS) and multiple campus departments. Additionally, the position will be responsible for designing, developing, maintaining, and supporting the university's CMS. The Senior Web Developer will evaluate opportunities, gather requirements, and work with the University's functional area(s) to build innovative and responsive web applications within the existing CMS.

The Senior Web Developer will report to the Associate Vice President of Enterprise Solutions, Information Technology and Security, and work closely with the Online and Digital Communications Manager in the University's Office of Communications and Public Affairs.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Write well-designed, testable, efficient code following leading industry best practices using languages such as Java, JavaScript, CSS, HTML(5), jQuery, etc. and optimized designs for cross-browser compatibility
  • Lead creating innovative, leading-edge website layouts and user interfaces by using standard HTML/CSS best practices optimized for performance and SEO and in accordance with WCAG 2.0, Level AA guidelines
  • Create and maintain documentation of all custom-built web applications
  • Collaborate with CRM and ERP integration teams to build integrations with appropriate data elements to appear on the public website and intranet
  • Contribute to the implementation of a new CMS with an eye on efficient maintenance, expansion, and scalability of the website
  • Execute assignments by creating web applications, scripts, and programming languages to meet needs elicited in requirements-gathering session(s) with key stakeholders
  • Write well-designed, testable, efficient code by using best software development practices
  • Maintain awareness and training on emerging web technologies and trends, working with management on plans to apply them
  • Coordinate consistent branding and visual design across the website with the Office of Communications and Public Affairs
  • Contribute to a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures and backgrounds

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Computer Science or a related field
  • 10+ years of web programming work experience using HTML/CSS, PHP, , and Javascript
  • Knowledge of how web applications work, including security, session management, web accessibility criteria and best development practices
  • Experience using relational database systems, Object Oriented Programming, and web application development
  • Creative problem-solving skills and superior analytical skills
  • Strong organizational skills to juggle multiple tasks within the constraints of timelines and budgets with business acumen
  • Ability to master rapidly evolving diverse web technologies and techniques.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills (e.g., technical documentation, presentations, etc.)
  • Willingness to embrace new technologies and innovative organizational practices

Work Schedule

Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Summer: Monday-Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Occasional evenings and weekends may be required.
